Spotted owl (Caurina subspecies) COSEWIC assessment and status report: chapter 13

Acknowledgements and Authorities Consulted

The information on British Columbia's Northern Spotted Owls contained in this report has been made available mainly through the dedicated efforts of a very few BC Government biologists and their field crews. In particular, Ian Blackburn and Jared Hobbs have spent many years surveying and studying Spotted Owls throughout their BC range. It is unlikely that readers can imagine the effort expended during hundreds of night time sojourns through rugged Northern Spotted Owl habitat. Other biologists who deserve special credit include Dave Dunbar, Stephen Godwin, Shawn Hilton, A. Hilton, Doris Hausleitner, and Vicky Young. The author offers his apologies for not mentioning others with considerable amounts of field time looking for Spotted Owls who should perhaps be included here.

Several biologists have spent an incredible amount of time developing various iterations of recovery plans and recovery strategies, and trying to determine the best way to maintain Northern Spotted Owls in Canada. These dedicated professionals include Myke Chutter, Alton Harestad, Louise Waterhouse, Ian Blackburn, Jared Hobbs, Liz Williams, Wayne Wall, John Surgenor, and David Cunnington. Again, the author offers his apologies for anyone missed.

Myke Chutter provided to the author many reports on Spotted Owls in British Columbia and, as always, provided substantial encouragement and support throughout the project. Jared Hobbs, David Cunnington, Elsa Gagnon and Dick Cannings provided very helpful comments on earlier versions of the status report. Jared Hobbs provided many insights throughout the project, several reports, and the amazing cover photograph from his collection of spectacular photos of Northern Spotted Owls. Suzanne Beauchesne kindly proof read an earlier draft of the status report and provided numerous comments.
