8. Measuring Progress

The performance indicators presented below provide a way to define and measure progress toward achieving the population and distribution objectives. Specific progress towards implementing the recovery strategy will be measured against indicators outlined in subsequent action plans.

  • Maintain the 2009 distribution and abundance of Ivory Gulls on eastern Ellesmere Island, over a five-year average
  • The 5 year average abundance of Ivory Gulls on eastern Ellesmere Island are maintained or increased.
  • The distribution of Ivory Gulls on eastern Ellesmere Island is maintained or enlarged.
  • Maintain the Seymour Island colony at ≥ 100 individuals annually.
  • A minimum of 100 Ivory Gulls occur at Seymour Island each year.
  • Maintain the distribution of breeding Ivory Gulls on Baffin Island, Cornwallis Island and Devon Island.
  • The recent distribution of Ivory Gull colonies on Baffin Island, Cornwallis Island and Devon Island is maintained.
  • Maintain the presence of wintering Ivory Gulls that breed in Canada and Europe, which includes Canadian waters in Davis Strait and Baffin Bay as well as off the coast of Labrador.
  • The presence of wintering Ivory Gulls is maintained in these areas.
