Special Significance of the Species
The Canadian populations are a major component of a disjunct element that is often treated as a distinct variety endemic to Victoria and nearby islands of Washington State. Aboriginal use of this species has been reported in a major ethnobotany database (University of Michigan - Native American Ethnobotany).
