Sommaire biographique des rédacteurs du rapport

Ross Vennesland est titulaire d’un baccalauréat de premier cycle (1996) en biologie et en géographie physique de la Simon Fraser University. Il est également titulaire d’une maîtrise en biologie de la Simon Fraser University (2000) portant sur l’écologie comportementale et la biologie de la conservation du Grand Héron. Durant et après ses études, M. Vennesland a travaillé à titre de consultant privé pour les gouvernements fédéral et provincial, des établissements d’enseignement et d’autres organisations, principalement dans le domaine de l’ornithologie. De 2002 à 2006, il a occupé le poste de biologiste principal des écosystèmes pour les espèces en péril, pour le compte du Ministry of Environment de la Colombie-Britannique, région du Lower Mainland. Dans le cadre de ses fonctions, il a travaillé sur une grande variété d’organismes, dont des oiseaux, des poissons, des plantes, des petits mammifères, des amphibiens et des invertébrés, et présidé plusieurs équipes de rétablissement ainsi que le South Coast Conservation Program (en anglais seulement), un programme de conservation à l’échelle du paysage de la région. Aujourd’hui, il occupe le poste de spécialiste du rétablissement des espèces en péril au Centre de services de l’Ouest et du Nord de Parcs Canada, à Vancouver.

Rob Butler est titulaire d’un baccalauréat et d’une maîtrise ès sciences de la Simon Fraser University et d’un doctorat en zoologie de la University of British Columbia. Il occupe le poste de chercheur scientifique principal au Service canadien de la faune d’Environnement Canada et est également professeur adjoint en sciences biologiques à la Simon Fraser University, en Colombie-Britannique. Ses spécialités de recherche sont la migration, l’écologie et la conservation des oiseaux. M. Butler fait figure d’autorité mondiale sur le Grand Héron en raison de ses recherches doctorales, ses publications scientifiques et la publication de son ouvrage de référence, The Great Blue Heron (Univ. of B.C. Press, 1997). M. Butler est conseiller scientifique pour le groupe de spécialistes des hérons de l’Union internationale pour la conservation de la nature (UICN), le Réseau de réserves pour les oiseaux de rivage de l’hémisphère occidental et les Zones importantes pour la conservation des oiseaux. Il est un ancien président de la Waterbird Society, président et membre fondateur du Heron Working Group et président de la Pacific Wildlife Foundation. Ses recherches sur la migration et la conservation des oiseaux au Canada et ailleurs ont été lauréates de nombreux prix. M. Butler est Fellow de la American Ornithologists’ Union.
