Sommaire biographique du rédacteur du rapport

Susan M. Pollard détient un baccalauréat en biologie marine et a obtenu une maîtrise en génétique des populations piscicoles de la University of Guelph, en 1992. À titre de généticienne des pêches pour le gouvernement de la Colombie-Britannique, elle a créé le programme provincial de génétique des pêches de la Conservation Section et s'en est occupé pendant environ huit ans, jusqu'en 2001. Pendant ces années, ses principales activités ont été, entre autres, l'identification des stocks de truites arc-en-ciel en vue de régler les questions de pêche de stocks mixtes, la description de la structure génétique des populations et des unités de conservation pour diverses espèces de poissons d'eau douce (notamment l'esturgeon blanc, l'omble à tête plate et la truite fardée), l'évaluation des pratiques de pisciculture et l'aide à l'élaboration de politiques provinciales pour la conservation et la gestion des poissons indigènes en Colombie-Britannique. Madame Pollard a passé une année en Alberta. Elle y a amorcé la rédaction des rapports de situation des trois espèces en péril de l'Alberta. En 2002, elle est retournée en Colombie-Britannique, où elle travaille conjointement avec la Freshwater Fisheries Society et la Biodiversity Branch du Ministry of Water, Land and Air Protection de la Colombie-Britannique sur des projets concernant notamment l'élaboration de politiques pour la conservation et la gestion des pêches, les espèces en péril et les questions entourant les espèces exotiques. Enfin, Madame Pollard fait partie (secrétariat) de l'équipe de rétablissement des espèces en péril de la rivière Milk.
