Species at Risk Act Permitting Policy
This document is one of a suite of Species at Risk Act (SARA) policies developed to support predictable, clear, and consistent implementation of the Act. These policies address key areas of the SARA cycle. They are designed to provide clarity for jurisdictions, Indigenous organizations and communities, and stakeholders on the requirements of the Act and to clarify how the Government of Canada or Environment and Climate Change Canada meets its obligations under SARA.
The SAR Public Registry comment period for the SARA Policy Suite is now closed. In the next months, ECCC will be finalizing the policies after taking into consideration the received input. In accordance with shared responsibilities for conservation of wildlife in Canada, ECCC will continue to engage jurisdictions and Indigenous Peoples on any significant comments received while the policies are being finalized.
Should you have any questions, please contact Mary Jane Roberts (Director, Species at Risk Act Management and Regulatory Affairs, Canadian Wildlife Service).
